Crime Alerts Available by Phone in Richmond Heights

A recent website upgrade means residents who registered under the old system should reapply, the city stated this week in a news release.

residents who signed up for crime alerts before a recent police website renovation should reapply, the city announced this week.

"Unfortunately, during the transition to the new Web hosting company, the database that held the ('s) list of 'Crime Alert' subscribers turned out to be incompatible with the new system," the city announced Tuesday in a news release. "All of the department's Crime Alert subscriber information was lost."

The free updates are delivered to residents' mobile phones from a handful of agencies and community organizations. They fall into one of four categories:

  • Emergency alerts
  • Advisories about less urgent, need-to-know information
  • Day-to-day neighborhood and community updates
  • Localized traffic information

To register, residents may text their ZIP code to 888777 or register using the form at the bottom of the Neighborhood Alerts page on the Richmond Heights police website. Nixle provides the service.
