Clayton Mayoral Race: How Much Have Your Neighbors Given to Sanger, Harris and Berger III?

A committee supporting Harold Sanger is leading the Clayton mayoral race in total fundraising.

A committee supporting Harold Sanger's bid to become the next mayor of Clayton has raised several thousand dollars more than each opponent's committee.

Sanger, a former Clayton alderman, raised $28,403 in contributions through Feb. 21, according to the most recent campaign finance reports filed with St. Louis County. 

Documents show that Ward 2 Alderwoman Michelle Harris raised $18,225 through Feb. 21 and Ward 3 Alderman Alex Berger III raised $13,710 through Feb. 20.

Jack Taylor, the founder of Enterprise, and former State Rep. Barbara Fraser were among the notable contributors to Sanger's campaign. Sanger received 15 separate contributions of $500 or more, including a $2,000 contribution from Taylor.

Sanger's committee spent about $5,000 of the contributions as of Feb. 20, with most of it going to printing, mailings, door hangers and logo design. 

Harris' committee received monetary contributions from 25 different people in the most recent reporting period, which included January and most of February. The committee spent about $9,000 in that same period, with much of that going to Switch 3 Creative. 

Some of the more notable contributors to Berger III's committee are Almonds Restaurant and City Coffee House. The campaign also received a $2,500 contribution from Thomas Wendel and $1,000 contribution from Jack Oates.

Through February, his committee spent $9,274, with much of that going to mailing costs, databases from CompleteCampaigns.com and advertising (disclosure: Patch received advertising payments).

The next round of campaign finance reports will be due on March 25, eight days before the election. The election is set for April 2.
