Clayton Students Model for County Recycling Campaign Kickoff

The event, sponsored by the St. Louis County Department of Health, happened earlier this month.

Clayton hosted a celebration for America Recycles Day earlier this month featuring circus performances, a proclamation by St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley and more.

Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch would like to thank Mary Patterson, supervisor for waste diversion for the , for sharing the following details from the event:

  • The event showcased the “Recycling Becomes Me” education campaign.  This is the first county-wide unified education campaign to increase curbside recycling. The campaign features preposterous visuals that interject common recycling containers into unexpected situations to show residents that recycling is part of many different lifestyles.  A red carpet photo shoot allowed participants to be photographed showing how “recycling becomes them” with the photos posted on the campaigns Facebook Fan Page.
  • The event also highlighted the public-private partnership of the county and the national Curbside Value Partnership.  As a 2011 partner of CVP, the county received at no cost CVP’s recycling expertise, social marketers and creative design team who worked closely with the County to develop the Recycling Becomes Me campaign.
  • Celebrated the success of reaching 55.9% waste diversion and In Unincorporated Districts, recycling volume increased 982% to 391 pounds per household per year and In overall County, recycling volume increased 270% to 673 pounds per household
  • Special thanks to:
  • County Executive Charlie Dooley proclaimed November 15, 2011 as “Recycling Becomes Me” Day in St. Louis County
  • Dr. Dolores Gunn, Director of the gave opening remarks
  • is a partner on the campaign and had an information booth
  • Republic Services, a local recycler and  waste hauler brought a talking recycling cart.
