Clayton Aldermen to Discuss City Revenues, Fireworks

A upgraded fireworks ordinance and continued discussion about modifying the city's system of boards and commissions are among the items on the Tuesday agenda of the Clayton Board of Aldermen.

DISCUSSION SESSION

  • Update on activities and educational programs offered at the
  • Continued discussion of Clayton boards and commissions (including review of a survey of commission structures in cities surrounding Clayton)


REGULAR MEETING

  • Review of Clayton's financial highlights over the past nine months. Among the highlights provided as part of the agenda:
  • General fund sales tax is up 1.3 percent as compared to the same period in fiscal year 2010.
  • Capital Improvements Fund tax revenue is up 2.2 percent
  • License and permit revenue is up by $21,805
  • Building permit revenue is down more than $385,000. Additional funds in that area in fiscal year 2010 came from the Centene project.
  • Parking revenue is down approximately $264,000
  • Utility tax revenue is down nearly $678,000. The city got a boost in this area from a one-time AT&T settlement during fiscal year 2010.
  • General fund expenses are down by more than $130,000
  • Consider an ordinance requested from the regarding use and sale of fireworks. The ordinance allows for permitted public fireworks displays.
  • Consider whether to approve a resolution to readopt the city's procedure regarding potential conflicts of interest.
  • Consider whether to authorize an approximately 40 percent increase in total compensation to Paric Corporation and a similar increase in reserved contingency. The increases are expected to cover the length of time that the company's construction management services will be needed for the
  • Consider setting an Aug. 23 public hearing about the city's fiscal year 2012 budget.
