$100,000 Pledged for Shaw Park Garden, Trail

The Clayton Century Foundation announced the gifts this month in a news release. The pledges come from Moneta Group; Moneta Group Charitable Foundation; William T. Kemper Foundation-Commerce Bank, Trustee; and the Commerce Bancshares Foundation.

A $75,000 gift from and the Moneta Group Charitable Foundation will go toward the Shaw Park Nature Garden, which will be located at the corner of Forsyth and Brentwood boulevards. It will include sculptures and indigenous plants, the release states.

A $25,000 gift from the William T. Kemper Foundation-Commerce Bank, Trustee and the Commerce Bancshares Foundation will go toward the Shaw Park Recreational Trail.

"It was just a way for us to get involved and to be supportive of their projects," said Jenny Hoelzer, grants manager for the Kemper Foundation. Of the gift made in September, $20,000 came from the Kemper Foundation and $5,000 came from Commerce Bancshares.

The trail will be a visible project that benefits Commerce employees and allows people to see change and progress, Hoelzer said.

"I think we're all really looking forward to seeing the renovations and changes in the park,"said Nancy Pritchard, marketing and communications director for Moneta Group.

Moneta Group's building is located across Brentwood Boulevard from Shaw Park, and the company has been in Clayton since 1960, Pritchard said. The business provides long-term, individualized financial planning services to families and companies with high net worth.

The charitable foundation, which is funded primarily by principals and employees, has made its half of the $75,000 gift. Moneta Group has made a third of its contribution and will give the remaining amount over the coming months.

The garden will probably be known as Moneta Garden, though a name hasn't been finalized, Pritchard said. A committee composed of representatives from Moneta Group, the Clayton Century Foundation and the city will give input on the project. The recreational trail will run through it.

"These gifts to the Clayton Century Foundation enhance the community experience and help the city to achieve its goals," foundation President Gary Feder stated in the release. "We look forward to bringing these projects to the public in time for the city's centennial celebration in 2013."

Shaw Park is named for Clayton's sixth mayor, Charles Shaw.
