Suicide Attempt Suspected in Incident at County Jail in Clayton

It happened Tuesday, police said.

An inmate at the in Clayton is not expected to survive after an apparent suicide attempt. The Justice Center includes the St. Louis County Jail, where the inmate was staying.

It happened at about 4 p.m. Tuesday, a news release from the states. The inmate, who was being held on felony forgery warrants, was found hanging by a bed sheet in a cell.

The inmate was unresponsive and received treatment from Clayton paramedics before being taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The inmate was in critical condition as of Wednesday morning.

An investigation is ongoing. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
