National Night Out Activities Postponed in Clayton, Richmond Heights

Richmond Heights will host festivities aimed at strengthening relationships between police and community on Sept. 20, while Clayton is expected to reschedule for October.

Residents of Clayton and Richmond Heights will get their chance to participate in National Night Out, a series of block parties and get-togethers aimed at strengthening the relationship between police and communities. But while many U.S. cities are hosting events Tuesday, people in these two St. Louis suburbs will need to wait until temperatures cool.

The Richmond Heights event has been conditions.

"Historically, it has been very hot, which has had an impact on attendance," stated Sgt. Doug Schaeffler of the in an email. "This year, we have decided to move it into September to 'beat the heat'. You will find that this is a trend that is gaining momentum throughout the county and the Midwest."

Between 20 and 30 block parties are expected to be held on that date. Each will be partially financed by the city's Police and Community Together (P.A.C.T.) Unit, Schaeffler stated.

Chief Tom Byrne of the canceled that city's festivities, planned for Tuesday, and will reschedule them for sometime in October, communications coordinator Judy Kekich stated in an email.

Those who plan to host an event in Clayton as part of National Night Out are encouraged to contact Community Services Officer Korey Golcynski at 314-290-8424 to arrange for a visit from Clayton police, the August edition of the city's CityViews newsletter states.
