Man Flooded Jail Cell by Breaking Sprinkler Head, Police Say

Jeffrey Lewistyr Cornelius was in the St. Louis County Justice Center after violating probation on an attempted robbery charge.

A man broke a sprinkler head in the St. Louis County Justice Center, allowing his cell to flood with water, Clayton Police said.

Jeffrey Lewistyr Cornelius, 23, of Kansas City, was charged Friday with damaging jail property.

Clayton Police said he purposely damaged the sprinkler head June 2.

Cornelius was in the county jail after violating his probation. He pleaded guilty May 10, 2012 to second-degree attempted robbery and assaulting an officer in Woodson Terrace.
