Man Charged As 'Same-Coat Bandit' in Two Bank Robberies

The man was indicted last March on bank robbery charges in Affton.

A St. Louis man was charged Thursday with two bank robberies, one in and another in Webster Groves.

Nicholas J. Hummel, 29, of the 5700 block of Loran Avenue in St. Louis, was charged Thursday with first-degree robbery and two counts of second-degree robbery.

The person on video in the robberies had been dubbed the ‘Same-Coat Bandit’ because he wore the same tan coat in each of the robberies.

The reported that Hummel demanded money from two tellers in Enterprise Bank at 150 N. Meramec Ave. in Clayton at about 3:40 p.m. Jan. 25. He did not display a weapon. He is charged with the two counts of second-degree robbery in that incident.

Hummel also robbed Reliance Bank at 8083 Watson Road in Webster Groves, police said. A bank employee told police he reached into his pocket, where they saw a metal object believed to be a firearm.

At one point, Hummel jumped the counter and told a teller, “You need to hurry or I’m gonna hurt you,” according to the police report.

Police said Hummel’s cellphone records put him in the areas at the time of the robberies.

Bond was set at $100,000.
