Man Arrested After Break-In at Occupied Richmond Heights House

Scott M. Smith was arrested in connection with the case near the Bellevue Avenue home, police stated in a report.

A man arrested Friday is suspected of having broken into a house in the 1900 block of Bellevue Avenue while the resident was inside.

Scott M. Smith, 21, of Barnhart is charged with first-degree burglary and property damage.

Smith is suspected of breaking a window pane in a door and damaging a window handle while attempting to enter the home, according to a report.

A woman in the home became aware of a person's presence and called 911 as she watched him flee from her home. Police said that they arrested Smith nearby and that the resident identified him.

Smith admitted to the burglary and said he was trying to get some money, according to the police report.

Bond was set at $50,000. Smith was on probation for burglary, stealing and property damage.
