Crime Claims Edition: Kidnapping, Tire-Iron Assault, Child Abuse

This May, people have contacted Richmond Heights police with several serious allegations.

The Richmond Heights Police Department reported the following incidents on its website.

An allegation of child abuse May 3 in the 1200 block of East Linden Avenue proved unfounded after an official investigation. A Richmond Heights police officer was asked to provide assistance at in , where a Division of Family Services social worker interviewed a juvenile resident of the home. Family members later were interviewed. The officer and social worker agreed there was no evidence to remove any children from the home. No further investigation is planned.

A 15-year-old man was placed in foster care after he contacted on May 3 and claimed he had been kidnapped. An investigation revealed he had been traveling to Florida with his mother and siblings when he ran away from her, claiming she had physically abused him. The mother had not reported him missing but had contacted East Central Dispatch to say her son had been acting badly and had run away from her. She did not stop at the Richmond Heights police station but instead left a Kansas City phone number. She had not returned messages left for her.

An employee of told police May 5 that a co-worker and his friends used a tire iron, fists and feet to attack him after work in the University Club Tower parking lot, 1034 S. Brentwood Blvd. The employee and his co-worker had exchanged words earlier in the night. The employee refused medical attention. Officers identified the co-worker, who is not actively wanted in connection with the assault.
