Clayton Police Will Collect Unused Prescription Drugs Saturday

The event will happen at The Center of Clayton.

St. Louisans will have the opportunity to get rid of prescription drugs they no longer need Saturday in Clayton.

Officers with the Clayton Police Department will staff the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day site in cooperation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

The program helps protect the environment by providing an alternative to throwing drugs in the trash or flushing them down the toilet. It also helps keep drugs out of the hands of children.

People who drop off the prescription drugs can do so confidentially

Clayton participated in the inaugural take-back event in 2010. This month's event will be held at the parking lot of The Center of Clayton, 50 Gay Ave. It will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., after which a DEA agent will take the drugs to be destroyed.

Officials have collected more than 1.5 million pounds of drugs nationally since the first take-back event, a DEA news release states.
