Clayton Bank Robbery: Police Give Safety Advice

In the wake of last week's Truman Bank robbery on Clayton Road, an officer explains how tellers and customers can protect themselves.

Community Services Officer Korey Golcynski regularly provides safety training to bank tellers on behalf of the . So he had several recommendations to share—both for tellers and customers of any bank—after the .

"If something looks suspicious, watch out for each other," Golcynski said.

First, tellers should greet customers entering a bank by being friendly and making eye contact. Doing so might cause a would-be robber to walk out of the bank without committing a crime.

Second, they should ask bank customers to remove any sunglasses or hats they might be wearing.

Third, tellers and customers alike should be aware of their surroundings and look out for the safety of one another in the presence of a person who acts suspiciously. That can protect tellers and prevent an unwitting customer from stumbling onto a bank robbery in progress.
