Center of Clayton Patron Taken to Hospital for Medical Emergency

Lifeguards and a doctor helped treat the woman until Clayton Fire Department paramedics arrived.

A patron at received transportation to a St. Louis area hospital Friday morning after experiencing a medical emergency, the city stated in a news release.

The woman had been swimming laps at the time the emergency occurred. Lifeguards helped her out of the pool and worked with a doctor to give medical support until paramedics from the arrived, the release states.

“This is the type of training that we’d prefer to practice rather than actually use,” stated Patty DeForrest, director, in the release. “However, it’s training that saves lives as everyone did exactly what they are supposed to do this morning. Our thoughts are with the swimmer and her family. We are hopeful that she will make a full recovery.”

Lifeguards at the Center have American Red Cross lifeguarding certification and are trained in CPR for the professional rescuer.
