Burglaries on Westmoreland Under Clayton Police Investigation

Two perpetrators are suspected in those incidents and two attempted burglaries on streets near University City, Detective Mark Seagle said.

Two Clayton earlier this fall appear to be connected and remain under investigation, police said Wednesday.

The same perpetrators also tried unsuccessfully to and , Detective Mark Seagle of the said. The attempted break-in on Bemiston triggered the house's burglar alarm.

The incidents happened in September and October, Seagle said.

Simple jewelry and designer handbags were among the things the burglars took. No electronics or money were taken in either case, Seagle said. In one case, a homeowner's two small dogs were found shut in an upstairs bedroom after a burglary. Police think the dogs followed followed a perpetrator up the stairs.

Two perpetrators appear to be responsible for the crimes. Clayton officials have been working with , where about three similar incidents happened on nearby Teasdale Avenue, Seagle said.

While no suspects have been identified, police received reports of two clean-cut men who approached people on streets that were hit to express interest in performing work on their homes. One of the men is described as being white and tall with dark hair. The other man is described as being black and shorter with short hair.

All of the cases involved forced or attempted forced entry through a rear sliding door or window in a dark area, Seagle said. They happened between 5 and 8 p.m.

Clayton residents should keep an eye out for suspicious people in their neighborhoods, Seagle said. They should turn on their lights during the early evening hours and keep alarms turned on throughout the day when they are away from home.

Two unrelated burglaries happened this fall at , but the suspect has confessed to those incidents, Seagle said.
