Broken Streetlight? Vacant House? Richmond Heights Police Will Help

Forms available on the newly designed Richmond Heights Police Department website let residents report dysfunctional streetlights and request periodic checks on their houses during vacations.

Darkened streetlights and temporarily vacant houses can be reported to the thanks to forms available on its newly redesigned website.

Residents' streetlight concerns are reported to Ameren Missouri weekly, Sgt. Doug Schaeffler said. Both that form and the vacant house form—which allows police to do periodic checks on houses whose residents are on vacation—have been in use for some time but have been made more prominent thanks to the redesign.

Schaeffler said he isn't sure how many responses the forms generate each month.

Residents can respond with automated answers or use blank fields to type additional information for officials. The following is a brief overview of the forms.

Streetlight Outage Form
The streetlight form asks readers provide the following information:

  • Describe the problem: Is the light dark at night, on all day, flickering or experience another issue?
  • Identify the light's location: Is it on a public street, in an alley or elsewhere?
  • Two-digit verification number


Vacation Form
The vacation form asks readers to provide the following information:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Email
  • Vacation departure and return dates
  • Is there an alarm system on the premises?
  • Will any lights be left on or on a timer?
  • Has the delivery of mail and/or a newspaper been stopped?
  • Will any vehicles be left in plain sight on the premises?
  • Two-digit verification code

Residents also have the ability to provide a personal phone number, identify key-holder contact information and name the rooms in which a light will be left on.
