Annual Uniform Day Memorial Ceremony Held Friday

The event honors fallen public servants.

The Thirty-Sixth Annual Uniform Day Memorial Ceremony was held Friday, May 10 behind Police Headquarters in Clayton.

Participating in the program were a police and fire honor guard, a police rifle squad and the St. Louis County Police Pipes and Drums. The traditional ceremony consisted of the posting of colors, a roll call of the deceased and a 16 volley shotgun salute.

Several police and fire departments from around the St. Louis area participated in the ceremony.

According to a press release, the wearing of dress uniforms by all commissioned personnel, regardless of assignment, serves as a visual affirmation of the commitment of these public safety providers to their chosen profession. 

May 15 is Peace Officers Memorial Day.
