Trees at Root of Tuesday's Richmond Heights Garden Club Meeting

Tonight the Richmond Heights Garden Club meets at 7:00p.m. to discuss trees.

The monthly meeting of the Richmond Heights Garden Club is tonight, Tuesday, October 9, 2012, 7:00p.m. at the Richmond Heights Community Center. With the drought we had this summer, the topic is very relevant: trees!

The members will lead the discussion of favorite Missouri and urban trees. Members and visitors are encouraged to bring twigs and leaves to add to the conversation.

While it remains to be seen which trees were negatively impacted by the drought, it is the perfect time to plant a tree. In fact, many arborists recommend Fall over Spring for tree planting. While the rains did not come in time to stop premature leaf falling, some trees are nonetheless showing excellent Fall colors.

In addition to the above, members and visitors are encouraged to nominate a "century tree". As part of its 100th civic anniversary, the Richmond Heights Parks and Recreation Department is looking for old trees. These trees will be honored during the city's festivities on 12/13/2012.

If you have a possible nominee, e-mail the location to www.richmondheights.org.
