Thoughts in the Laundromat on Christmas Eve

With Christmas on Sunday and banks closed on Monday, this Batchelor Blogger is forced to do weekly laundry early.

This blogger purchased his usual $10.00 roll of quarters. He packed up his dirty laundry in "odor proof" plastic bag with convenient red handles. The detergent was already in the car. Time to do laundry---ugh!

Drive to the neighborhood laundromat (there are actually two so it is always a choice) and the routine is the same every week. Separate the clothes by colors. Pour in laundry soap. Load laundry into the washing machine(s). Put in quarters. Select water temperature. Hit "start" button.

Then drive to the grocery store to purchase newspaper or magazine. Or drive to the coffee shop to purchase double shot of espresso. Or take a brisk walk.

Return to the laundromat within 21 minutes as the machine(s) finish the spin cycles. Separate laundry by drying time and place in dryer(s). Then pump in more quarters in multiples of seven: $0.25/7 min., $0.50/14 min, $0.75/21 min. Remove laundry, fold on table, place in clean plastic bag.

As the blogger slung his bag of clean laundry over his shoulder (Santa-style), he saw Venus rising in the East. Wasn't this the Star of Bethlehem?

A Filipino student rushed in to retrieve his red sleeping bag from a dryer. None of that "Happy Holidays" pap: the Blogger wished the man a hearty, "Merry Christmas!"
