Recent Art Gallery Scenes

Two recent art gallery showings were wildly diverse in their content and presentation.

"All Souls Narrative" at Sarah Carmody Photography features works by Aunia Kahn. Ms Kahn's photographs and prints are frequently autobiographical. Some channel WW-II graphic-style---think Rosie the Riveter and Gasoline Alley pinups.

Her pictures frequently capture fleeting moments in time. If you cannot see her work at this gallery, closing on 11/03/12, check it out on-line at www.auniakahn.com.

Creative Art Gallery and Framing has "Focus 360" with works by Art Group 360. These six artists all share a connection to Foundry Art Centre in St Charles, MO. With no scheduled closing reception, the show ends on October 13 so you still have time to see it.

The six artists are John Dean, Janet Fons, Lisa Ober, Linda Smith, Steve Morris, and Patrick Nolan. Mr Nolan is the abstract expressionist with works in glass mounted on concrete canvases which weigh 20-40 lbs each! His sense of color and the sculptural depth to the pieces is intoxicating.

The other five artists are representational with works in pastels, watercolors, or oils. Mr Dean and Ms Fons offer landscapes in the "plein air" tradition. Mr Morris' water color studies of birds' nests with eggs are incredibly detailed. Ms Ober and Ms Smith capture "moments in time", from the spherical study of pool hall balls of Ms Ober to Ms Smith's oil of two friends shopping.

In addition, Ms Ober paints reflections and images in glass like the Old Dutch Masters in their still lifes, lighting a desire to visit her Kirkwood Gallery to see more.
