Inaugural ArtFest in Richmond Heights

The 31 featured artists include some of my personal favorites

The multi-colored flags have sprouted in the median of the 7500 block of Lindbergh Drive where tents will be erected for ArtFest.

Sponsored by Friends of Richmond Heights and Richmond Heights Centennial 2013, this is the inaugural art and fine craft fair for Richmond Heights. Held on Saturday, May 18, 11:00a.m.-5:00p.m., free parking will be at The Masonry Institute, 1429 S. Big Bend, 63117.

While small compared to Art St Louis (Clayton) or Art in the Square (Belleville), both with 150 artists, the 31 artists at ArtFest pack a solid punch. This art fair has some of my favorite artists, Jane Linders and Andy Tourette. Linders' photographs, even of familiar objects, will stop you in your tracks.

Tourette's shiny and soaring abstract sculptures take off like dancers. In addition to paintings and sculpture, other works include whimsical felted dolls and animals, jewelry, clothing accessories, and furniture.Juried by Julie Wiegand, local artist but nationally known, first prize is $250.00.

Two honorable mentions include gift certificates from Harvest Restaurant, Garden Heights Nursery, and Norton's Fine Art and Framing. Other donations include $100.00 gift certificates from Black Finn Restaurant and Grill and its sister location, Vida Mexican Restaurant, both in St Louis Galleria. In the event of rain, ArtFest will have the same hours but be held at Richmond Heights Community Center. Rain or shine, ArtFest hopes to grow into a bigger venue in 2014.
