Cardboard Regatta, Anyone?

Even if you did not sign up for the Maplewood Pool Cardboard Regatta by 5:00p.m. Friday, please come to the Maplewood Pool on Saturday, August 11, to cheer on the entries!

I frequently ride my New Belgium Cruiser (bicycle) in Forest Park in the morning and swim laps at the in the evening. Last night it was a beautiful sunset at the Maple-wood Pool; as I was leaving a small poster pasted to the wall in the men's locker room caught my eye.

On Saturday, August 11, 5:00p.m.-8:00p.m.. the Maple-wood Pool is sponsoring the "Cardboard Boat Regatta". For $10.00, you can enter to build a cardboard boat with corrugated cardboard and duct tape. Two persons, wearing life preservers, must be in the boat to power the race.

Earlier this summer, there was a cardboard boat regatta in Forest Park at the Boathouse. One of the biggest there, The Titanic, seated six persons and had tall smokestacks spewing "smoke" (dry ice) and came in fifth place. It was a sight to see!

This weekend, bring your money, cardboard boxes, duct tape, and your imagination as you decorate your entry for "Fastest Boat", "Best Decorated", "Titanic Award", and "People's Choice Award". You may use glue or caulk on the seams, and oars can be made of other material than cardboard.

For more information, call Mary Binns at 314-645-1476.
