Fontbonne University Theatre Opens Season with "The Children's Hour"

The Fontbonne University theatre department presents, “The Children’s Hour,” by award-winning playwright Lillian Hellman. The production is directed by Jean Lang and runs Oct. 9-13.

“The Children’s Hour” is the story of two longtime friends who open a school for girls. After a minor dispute, one of the students runs away from the school and when asked to explain why, she falsely calls into question the relationship between her teachers. The rumor spreads quickly, and as the community turns against them, the women’s lives and dreams are destroyed.

The cast includes Zoe Sullivan, Katie Donnelly, Josie Zeugin, Mary Schnitzer, Sydney Frasure, Dave Chandler, London Reynolds, Angela Doerr, Marki Miller, Traci Clapper and Emma Bruntrager.

Performances will be at the Fontbonne University Fine Arts Theatre at 6800 Wydown Blvd., in Clayton, Mo., starting at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 – Saturday, Oct. 12, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13. General admission tickets are $5.

The Children’s Hour is a participant in American Arts Experience – St. Louis Festival. During the first two weeks of October, The Festival will fill venues across the city with productions of American theatre, dance, music and art to raise awareness of the quality and breadth of arts programs in the St. Louis area.
