The Sloup Across the Delmar Divide series is part of an
ongoing collaboration between The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, Missouri
History Museum (MHM), and the Anti-defamation League (ADL). These institutions
are holding events to help fund projects that remedy issues highlighted by the
2012 news segment “Crossing a St. Louis Street That Divides Communities”
produced by BBC reporter Franz Strasser. The programs are inspired by
Sloup, a monthly soup dinner that supports grassroots projects in St. Louis.
The Pulitzer, MHM, and ADL review and choose four proposals
that are presented at each public Sloup event. The selected proposals are
assessed for their ability to bridge racial and socio-economic divides in the
city from the standpoint of design, history, and service learning.
Sloup event guests donate $10 to listen to the four
proposals for community projects with refreshments and soup provided. At the
end of the evening, Sloup guests cast their vote for a favorite project. 100%
of the proceeds fund one of the submitted proposals. The St. Louis Beacon will cover the progress of the winning proposal
over the next year.
