This year the St. Louis Social Media Group was given the distinction of being nominated in the RFT’s 2013 Web Awards. These awards showcase the best the web has to offer from, Best Restaurant Website Design to Funniest Twitter Feed. The St. Louis Social Media Group was nominated in a new category to the 2013 awards, the Biggest Twitter Twerp of the Year. At first we were hurt that such a fun publication would take such a mean-spirited stance, since no one likes to be called a twerp.

Twerp: (noun) a silly, insignificant or annoying person

Then we decided to OWN IT! We are happy to announce the first ever Twitter Twerps Against Cyber Bullying Happy Hour on February 6th to benefit the Megan Meier Foundation.

We are using our Twerptitude for a very worthy cause, and we have partnered with Three Kings Public House to do so.  The Megan Meier Foundation’s mission is to bring awareness, education and to promote positive change to children, parents and educators in response to the ongoing bullying and cyber-bullying in our children’s environment. Anyone who has ever logged into Facebook or Tweeted even once can understand that social media can be a powerful tool to bring people together and to create a sense of community and inclusiveness. Unfortunately it can also be used to hurt feelings and to bully. The St. Louis Social Media Group would like to use our social media powers for good, and you can too!

Come join us to raise money, spread awareness and to harness your inner Twerp from 6pm to 9pm at Three Kings Public House. If you can't make the happy hour, please try to stop by Three Kings anytime on the 6th. The restaurant is donating 20% of its food sales to the charity ALL DAY!

Come join us for yummy food, fun company and a raffle with great prizes including a Samsung Galaxy Tablet!

St. Louis Social Media Group is an eclectic group ranging from social media professionals to small business owners and even the totally technologically challenged. Together we explore the wonderful and sometimes wild world of the World Wide Web; helping each other to learn and grow both personally and professionally. Our activities range from seminars on the newest technologies in the world of social media to festive happy hours and events. We also host a weekly Twitter chat on a range of topics every Monday; join us with the hash-tag #stlchat. Of course you can find us on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Pinterest. The only thing we don’t know do is Morse code. We DO put the Social back in Social Media.
