Whole Foods Needs Shoes for its Back-to-School Shoe Drive

The grocer is helping the Shoeman Water Project with getting clean water to children who need it.

It's back-to-school time. While many drives will be seeking school supplies for children of parents who can't afford it, Whole Foods just wants sneakers.

Whole Foods Market-Galleria is partnering with Shoeman Water Project. Typically, by the end of summer kids have wither outgrown or overworn their shoes especially before returning to school. Rather than throwing the old shoes in the trash when you buy a new pair, drop them off at Whole Foods and help turn them into water for communities that need it.

Through August 18 people can drop off shoes at Whole Foods Market, located at 1601 S. Brentwood Blvd.

Shoeman Water Projects, a local non-profit, gathers donated shoes and exports them to street vendors in South America, Haiti, Kenya and other places where people need affordable shoes. The money received from exporting the shoes is used to purchase well drilling rigs, water purification systems, and other supplies to bring clean, fresh water to those who thirst.
