  • Whiz Kids' School/Church/Community Center:
  • Whiz Kids' Accomplishment: The three were among the Captain Elementary students who participated Feb. 24 in Black History Night.
  • Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness: Neleh, Tavin and Michaela worked together to share the story of William Kamkwamba, a Malawi resident who built a windmill to provide energy to his family's house and has since invested in other community projects. Black History Night is an annual celebration at the school. "As part of the program, students made their own kente cloth to hang around their shoulders and a communal cloth to pass from storyteller to storyteller, symbolizing the African storytelling traditions," the district stated in a recent newsletter. More photos from the event are available on the Web site of the School District of Clayton.
