Weekend Events Include Youth Opera, Star Show

When/Where: 7 p.m. Friday at 's playground amphitheater
Why Go: This is an 11-year-old Clayton tradition that often draws so many people, there's standing room only. Organizers advise bringing a lawn chair for guaranteed seating. A Clayton resident wrote the opera, and a Clayton High School senior wrote the music for the performance. It lasts about 30 minutes, so make sure to be on time!
Pricing: Free; donations benefiting Joplin Schools are welcome


When/Where: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at
Why Go: Gather the family and friends for live music from J-Rob. It's part of a concert series sponsored by Brentwood Parks and Recreation and West Community Credit Union.

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at The Ladue Shops on Clayton Road
Why Go: Enjoy the cooler temperatures and shopping during the three-day sidewalk sale happening at numerous businesses in The Ladue Shops.

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at The Regional Arts Commission gallery in University City
Why Go: View artwork including paintings, documentary film and animation from Emily Hemeyer, Sarah Paulsen, Alex Petrowsky and Lyndsey Scott.

CHEAP DATE NIGHT AT SCIENCE CENTER
When/Where: 7 p.m. Saturday at the St. Louis Science Center, 5050 Oakland Ave. in St. Louis City
Why Go: The Perseid Meteor Shower hits its zenith Saturday, so the science center is offering a Cheap Date Night event featuring a star show, a simulation of the meteor shower and more, accompanied by snacks and a cash bar.
Pricing: $7 per person. Tickets are available at the door or by calling 314-289-4424.
