Weekend Events Include Joplin Fundraiser, Orchestra's Season Finale

When/Where: 1:30 to 3 p.m. Friday in Richmond Heights
Why Go: Cheese expert Max McCalman will be signing copies of his latest book, Mastering Cheese: Lessons for Connoisseurship from a Maître Fromager. The book covers topics such as how to select cheese at the grocery store and how cheese is produced.
Pricing: The book retails at $40, but Schnucks will give those who attend the book signing a 25 percent discount.


When/Where: 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission, 6128 Delmar Blvd. in University City
Why Go: Photographs taken after the devastating tornado in Joplin, MO, will be displayed and sold in a silent auction. Proceeds will benefit relief efforts in the city.

When/Where: 9 a.m. Saturday at Powder Valley Conservation Center in St. Louis
Why Go: St. Louis journalist Don Corrigan will lead a nature hike as part of an event sponsored by the /KMOX Book Club.

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sheraton-St. Louis City Center, 400 S. 14th St. in St. Louis City
Why Go: If you're a kitchen legend looking to take your culinary prowess to the next level, take a trip this weekend to downtown St. Louis for your chance to become the next Food Network celebrity. When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Sunday on the Brookings Quadrangle at Washington University, 1 Brookings Drive in St. Louis
Why Go: In "West by Northwest," the Gateway Festival Orchestra will wrap up its 48th season with selections such as Dvorak's "Symphony No. 8 in G Major" and Strauss' "On the Beautiful Blue Danube".
