Take Your Family to See Scrumptious Desserts or a Free Movie This Weekend

There are plenty of fun things for families to do in or near Clayton and Richmond Heights this weekend. Here's a look at five of them.


When/Where: 7 p.m. Thursday, Clayton High School auditorium
Why Go: Celebrate Captain Elementary School's history of honoring Black History Month. This year's theme will be "Let Your Dreams Take Flight." Learn about William Kamkwamba, who was featured in the book, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.

When/Where: 7 p.m. Thursday, Bridgeton Branch of the St. Louis County Library in Hazelwood
Why Go: Learn about the life of surgeon Ben Carson at this showing of the movie Gifted Hands.
Pricing: Free


When/Where: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Missouri Botanical Garden's Monsanto Hall, located in the upper level of the Ridgway Visitor Center
Why Go: Take the youngsters (after lunch, perhaps?) to check out a plethora of decorated cakes and cookies.
Pricing: Free


When/Where: 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Memorial Park in Brentwood
Why Go: Children ages 8 and older and their parents can get a workout together. You'll focus on improving your balance, strength and cardiovascular health.
Pricing: Residents pay $60 per family member; non-residents pay $78 per family member. Those interested in participating must register by Wednesday.


When/Where: 5:45 p.m. Saturday
Why Go: Meet firefighters and check out its fire trucks, then see the animated Pixar film Cars. Free popcorn will be available while supplies last. The registration code for the film is 12006. More information is available by downloading the flier for the event from the city's Web site.
