Great Escape: Two Clayton Restaurants Offer Getaway From March Madness

This week, Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch presents an edition of Great Escape for the rest of us.

*Editor's note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly identified the price of a full cheesecake at My Daddy's Cheesecake. A single-flavor, eight-pound cheesecake costs $27.95, while a cheesecake can be shipped anywhere in the U.S. for about $50. This article has been updated to reflect the correct pricing.

Your teens are holding a car wash at the high school Saturday. The grandparents volunteered to take the younger children to a movie Sunday afternoon. Your tweens take tap on Wednesday evening.  It’s your time. Take it.

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

This week, Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch invites folks who think the whole March Madness basketball hubbub is a little silly to enjoy a relaxing breakfast this weekend at in Richmond Heights or in Clayton.

Forget late nights spent watching TV and eating wings until your eyes and your heart explode. You're a morning person, and you love light breakfast foods.

That's where City Coffeehouse & Creperie comes in. With a menu of 40 different crepes, you could come once a week for most of a year without having the same dish twice. The restaurant, which opens at 7 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, offers a little slice of gay Paris at 36 N. Brentwood Blvd., and in a cozy cafe environment.

The dress code is casual, and the price is right: crepe selections range from a mere $4.50 to $7.80. Don't forget to order a 20-ounce Coffee of the Day for just $1.70.

If dessert is more your thing, check out the fresh-baked goodies at My Daddy's Cheesecake, 6451 Clayton Rd. in Clayton. The display cases are full of amazing (if pricey) cheesecakes with flavors such as Forbidden Fudge, N'Orleans Praline, Eggnog and Chocolate Covered Strawberry. If you're looking for more than just one slice, you can pay $27.95* for a single-flavor, eight-pound cheesecake. And if you need a cheesecake shipped anywhere in the U.S., you can do so for about $50* with FedEx.

But My Daddy's Cheesecake offers much more than just its namesake dessert. With delicious wraps, salads, croissants, sandwiches, omelets, parfaits and quesadillas to dazzle your taste buds, it's not too difficult to leave with a full stomach for about $10. You might even feel a little sorry for your friends and family members as they chow down on greasy burgers while watching 10 sweaty college kids bounce and throw an orange ball.

My Daddy's Cheesecake opens at 7 a.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m. Sundays.
