For a Taste of Frigid Caribbean Air, There's No Place Like St. Louis

My wife and I realized a long time ago that you can have a good time and not spend a lot of money—in St. Louis, of all places.

Julie and I recently took a four-day babymoon in an effort to experience what parenting will not be like: quiet.

We visited the St. Louis Art Museum on March 4 (beautiful weather) and the zoo on Monday (kind of chilly). We ate out. We rented movies from Clayton's own of the St. Louis County Library.

We relaxed. We had a blast.

I'm not sure how long the concept of a babymoon has been around, but I surely think it's here to stay. You've got the relaxation element of a honeymoon paired with the knowledge that a young, living creature will soon be inhabiting the space in which you reside.

What's not to love?

What I didn't realize was that our babymoon—while highly affordable and extra enjoyable—pales in comparison to such trips as recommended by parents.com.

Man. I should have done my research.

The staff of the website has put together a great and enviable list of places to go on one's babymoon. I'm just not convinced yet that two recently graduated newlyweds (three years this month!) have the resources to visit:

  • Antigua, West Indies
  • Jamaica
  • British Virgin Islands

Of course, there are more domestic options, in states such as Florida and Vermont. But really, with gas prices the way they are, I'm lucky to make it out to the grocery store.

We'll continue to enjoy our adventures close to home, though. Sure, they may not be as glamorous to some as they are to us. But we count ourselves blessed and happy, and that's all that matters.

Plus, our next four-day weekend is going to be way more exciting.

We'd like to visit Iowa.
