Diabetes Researcher to Speak at Clayton Fundraiser

The event will benefit the Missouri Cures Education Foundation.

A top diabetes researcher is expected to speak Sept. 29 in Clayton as part of a fundraiser benefiting the Missouri Cures Education Foundation.

Dr. Camillo Ricordi serves as scientific director of the University of Miami Diabetes Research Institute, a news release from the Missouri Cures foundation states. He worked at Washington University from 1986-88. During his time there, he invented the Ricordi Chamber, a technology that isolates insulin-producing cells from the pancreas so that they can be given to people with diabetes.

The fundraiser is open to the public and will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at . Tickets are $100, and $65 of that price is tax-deductible. The price of admission includes a cocktail reception. They may be purchased by going to the Missouri Cures website or by calling 1-800-829-4133.

His wife, Valerie Grace Ricordi, is a St. Louis native and graduated from .

The Missouri Cures foundation works to educate people about the importance of medical research such as stem cell research, the release states.
