Clayton Hosts Citizens for Modern Transit's Great Race

Teams using a WeCar, bicycles and MetroLink competed against one another Thursday to raise awareness about alternative forms of transportation.

A race aimed at raising awareness about alternative forms of transportation wrapped up early Thursday night in Clayton with a finish-line celebration at .

The victor? Team Carshare, which received a trophy from St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley.

The event—sponsored by Citizens for Modern Transit in partnership with Trailnet and WeCar by Enterprise—featured three groups of racers traveling from downtown St. Louis city to Clayton using alternative forms of transportation.

Team Transit used MetroLink and included members such as Kevin The Intern from the Phillips & Company Morning Show on Y98-FM; reporter Heidi Glaus from KSDK NewsChannel 5; local editor Nate Birt of Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch; and Kim Cella, executive director of Citizens for Modern Transit.

Team Bike members traveled to Clayton using bicycles. Members included anchor Kevin Steincross from KTVI FOX 2 News and Ann Mack, executive director of Trailnet.

Team Carshare used a WeCar, and its members included Don Corrigan, editor-in-chief of the Webster-Kirkwood Times, South County Times and West End Word newspapers; Tony Moise, vice president and general manager of the Saint Louis Operating Group for Enterprise Holdings; and Steve Salemi, airport market manager for Enterprise Holdings.

The event began at the Old Post Office Plaza, 815 Locust St. in downtown St. Louis city. Mayor Francis Slay delivered opening remarks.
