Arnold Aluminum Facility to Expand Operations

Recycling can support local manufacturing plant.

Anheuser-Busch recently at its (MCC) facility in Arnold, MO. This investment is estimated to cost between $70 million and $80 million, and will increase production and create at least 20 new jobs at the facility. The Arnold facility produces aluminum cans for Anheuser-Busch and soft drink makers.

Why does Eco-Audrey care about this? Simple, besides the fact that MCC is adding new manufacturing jobs to the local economy, this factory is going to need more aluminum. MCC's feed stock can either come from virgin aluminum, or recycled content aluminum. Did you know it takes 95% less energy to make cans from recycled aluminum than it does to mine the ore from virgin material? Did you also know that it takes just about 2 months from the time you put your can in the recycling bin until it appears as a new can on grocery shelves?

Eco-Audrey is a big fan of recycling EVERYTHING she can, but understands if you are not so passionate about it. However, even if you are a casual recycler, let's make sure we actually get some use out of our used cans and send them to a local recycling facility. So, the next time you are enjoying a tasty beverage, remember to toss it in the recycling bin. Not only are you helping to save the planet, you will be supporting the local economy.

P.S. many have asked to see the results of the Recycling Survey mentioned in a previous blog post. I'll let you know as soon as it is posted on our website, www.RecycleSaintLouis.com.

Eco-Audrey is the fictional face of St. Louis County's Recycling Becomes Me campaign. Although Audrey is not real, the writer from St. Lous County certainly is.
