Life's A Peach: When Someone Else Does the Growing!
You know how a meal often tastes better when someone else does the cooking and serves it up for a special occasion? You're relaxed and you salivate in anticipation. Well, I have a surprise for you.
You can also relax while you shop at your local Farmer's Market with the knowledge that someone else has grown the food with care and purpose and offers it up to you like a good friend having you over for a lovely meal. That's really when meal preparation begins--in the garden or on the farm---with nutrient rich soil, fertile seeds, cooperative weather, and a huge dose of TLC from your local farmer.
On Saturday morning at the Clayton Farmer's Market, when the farmers are setting up their produce stands, the aroma of the fresh fruits and vegetables create an anticipation for the meals I'm going to enjoy later. Before the stronger aromas of fresh baked bread and BBQ take over, I savor the morning sweetness that can be found in the peaches and berries or the earthy crispness in a bunch of radishes.
Try this the next time you go shopping for your produce. Let your nose lead the way. You'll be amazed at how great your next meal tastes if you begin it's preparation at the market with the freshest ingredients possible. And, I'll tell you a secret. I never buy a peach I can't smell. They have no taste. You want a great tasting pie or cobbler---stick your nose in the peach crate first and select the one's with the strongest aromas. Guaranteed best pie ever!
