Dad's Day at Clayton Farmer's Market

America's first farmers were dads and their families, and today small family farms are once again flourishing. Visit a Farmers Market this weekend to celebrate Father's Day.

Let’s get right to it—the food comes first.  As the saying goes, it’s the way to a man’s heart!  And no one has a bigger winning heart than dad. Whether dad savors a meal cooked especially for him or he loves to wear the chef’s hat, there’s something for him at the Clayton Farmers Market this week.

Let's also give a big congratulations to all new dads in the community--it's their first Father's Day!

On Saturday morning you can spend some special time with Dad and DINE AT THE MARKET with mouth-watering smoked BBQ by Straub’s smoker or spicy tacos from Cha Cha Chow. For dessert, try one of Jessie Pearl's Southern Treats or Reggie Davis’ Small Bites. Then sit back in a market lawn chair and listen to the lively old-time Music of the Folk School at 10:00am.

For  DAD’S SPECIAL BREAKFAST on Sunday morning, make him homemade French toast with Great Harvest Honey whole wheat bread and fresh farm eggs topped with a scoop of Baetje Farm Couer de la Crème and Stinger’s Honey.  Create a breakfast parfait with yogurt, fresh fruit and a generous sprinkling of Grandma’s Nuts.

For DAD’S SPECIAL DINNER, grill Sugar Creek Piedmontese burgers and serve them on your favorite Black Bear Bakery Lickhalter rye bread topped with thinly shredded Veggie Boy cabbage and Thousand Island dressing.  Side dishes include Mangia Italiano Fresh Spinach Fettuccini drizzled with olive oil and served with fresh basil, grilled Biver Farm baby yellow squash and Silent Oaks scallions. Finish with a fresh green salad made with a fun selection of lettuce, arugula, sugar snap peas and cucumbers. Seasoning and dressings are chef’s choice.

For DAD’S SPECIAL GIFTS, take him shopping at the Market. Dad’s backyard oasis will look great with one of John Werner’s rustic furniture pieces and made more beautiful with flowers from Jaeger Greenhouses or outdoor art by Eclectic Arts. Hand-crafted cutting boards and cooking utensils by Newberry Furniture will please the home chef, and for a relaxing treat at the end of the day, surprise dad with a Black Birch foot soak.

If other members of the family want something special too, the Market offers beautifully hand-crafted jewelry by Element 14 and Ardha Luna, as well as lovely paintings, scarves and stationary by Chameleon Arts. New this week, Designs by Daphne will embroider a gift while you wait. And don’t forget to stock up on IBone dog bones for dad’s four-footed best friend.

The Clayton Farmers Market is located on Ladue Road at Maryland Avenue, just west in the Brown Shoe lot. For more information, call 314-913-6632 or visit www.claytonfarmersmarket.com.
