A Market Festival for Kids of All Ages

Every day is a farm fresh festival for kid's of all ages at the Clayton Farmer's Market.

Whether you're an early riser enjoying a rich cup of coffee and standing in line for the choicest vegetables or you like a more relaxed approach to your Saturday morning and savor a stroll through the Market later, there's something for everyone at the Clayton Farmer's Market.

This week the Clayton Farmer's Market is proud to feature Stone Hill Winery. This historic Missouri winery brings its award winning wines to the Market! Wine and sparkling juices are available by the bottle and Stone Hill Winery will offer wine tastings to passersby. Do your shopping and include a bottle to take home and enjoy with your Market Day Meal.

For the early risers,  join Shelley Shray of the St Louis T’ai Chi Ch’uan Association for  free TAI CHI at 8:45-9:30 a.m. Shelley will lead everyone in basic, short form Tai Chi which are easy-to-follow exercises. Limber up your morning and then do your shopping!

For late risers, enjoy the fun and sassy music of the Lulus at 10 a.m. Four women musicians who tell it like it is in a blend of old time, bluegrass, and country music using strong vocals and tasteful harmonies. Sit and listen to the music while you have a breakfast dish from the Cha Cha Chow food truck or a  plate of Straub's Smoked BBQ.

And if you cant's decide, bring the kids and stay all morning! Little kid's can learn the art of frottage. The St. Louis Artist Guild will be here all day with crayons, paper and textured objects (leaves, foil, netting, etc) so kids can turn artistic rubbings into their own works of art!

For the big kids watch the summer canning demonstration by Penelope Beach. Learn the basics of home canning and get some great recipes. The National Farmers Market Coalition has teamed up with the maker of Ball canning products to help you discover the benefits of preserving farm fresh produce.

This week at the Market look for new arrivals of summer squash & zucchini, cucumbers, broccoli, cauliflower, sugar beets & sugar snap peas, sunflower sprouts & wheat grass. Continue to enjoy baby arugula & mixed salad greens, beet greens, several varieties of kale & lettuces along with spinach, bok choy, radishes & strawberries.

And don't forget to stock up on farm eggs from free range chickens, grass-fed beef & award winning goat cheese.  Fresh pasta & baked breads, desserts, and local honey round out your shopping list and help you continue the farm fresh festival in your own kitchen.
