"66 Days on Route 66"

Have you ever heard the siren's call of "The Mother Road" also known as Route 66? Or wondered what the mystique is all about? Well, you're not alone.

As one of the original US Highways, many have traveled "The Mother Road" or Route 66, since its establishment in 1926. Imagine an earlier America when the highways were two-lane roads, often just packed dirt and gravel where nature and farmland filled the open spaces between towns and cities.

Route 66 stretches across the United States from Chicago to Los Angeles passing through what was once an iconic era in our nation's history---when handshakes mean you can count on me and the offer of a good meal to a stranger was a matter of fact. Along these long stretches of tarmac, a traveler could also find roadside stands of fruit and vegetables from hard scrabble folks making a living off the land.

It wasn't an easy life--but it was an honest one.  Also, along "The Mainstreet of America" a weary traveler could always find someone ready to play a fine tune on the guitar or fiddle or someone to sing a ballad of life's travails. That is if the traveler didn't carry his own music with him.

We are fortunate today to find both song and food at the Clayton Farmer's Market. We are also fortunate this week to welcome Australian singer/songwriter, Grayson who is traveling Route 66--literally singing his way across America and documenting his travels on film.

Grayson will perform at the Market on Sat. August 6 at 11:00am.  Come by and celebrate two of our country's best treasures--food fresh from the land and music fresh from the heart!  Join us Saturday for touch of the past in a modern day market setting.  Here's what else you will find:
