ST. LOUIS PUBLIC RADIO, LONG-TIME ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVIST STEVE MAHFOOD TO BE HONORED AT GREAT RIVERS ENVIRONMENTAL LAW CENTER EVENT

The Bluffs on Broadway, with its spectacular panorama of the St. Louis Arch, the Mississippi River and miles of skyline will be the setting for the Great Rivers Environmental Law Center’s “Eighth Annual Awards Celebration” on Sunday, Sept. 29, 5 – 7:30 p.m.  The event will honor St. Louis Public Radio for its exceptional coverage of environmental issues and Steve Mahfood for his service as director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Guests also will be treated to cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as they enjoy the Bluffs on Broadway’s extensive collection of playful contemporary art and the expansive views from the 4,000 square feet of decks and terraces.  Chairs of the event are Joyce Armstrong, John Rava and Matthew P. McCauley.

According to Kathleen Henry, president of Great Rivers Environmental Law Center, “This event offers guests the incredible opportunity to not only honor the exceptional environmental efforts of both Steve Mahfood and St. Louis Public Radio, but also to enjoy the artwork and fantastic surroundings at the Bluffs on Broadway.  In addition, the cocktail party supports the important work of Great Rivers Environmental Law Center in our nonprofit efforts to provide free and reduced-fee legal services to those seeking to protect the environment and public health.”

In addition, Great Rivers Environmental Law Center is honoring St. Louis Public Radio, formerly KWMU, for its excellent programming on issues relating to the environment and for public health for many years.

Honoree Steve Mahfood will receive Green Rivers Environmental Law Center’s prestigious Lewis C. Green Award.  Mahfood has a 35-year track record as an innovative administrator and leader in the environmental, energy and natural resource fields.  He was appointed by three successive governors as cabinet secretary to lead the Missouri Department of National Resources, where he was responsible for managing the state’s environmental, energy, geological, cultural and historic resources.  The recipient of many environmental honors, including the U.S. Presidential Environmental Achievement Award, Mahfood currently is advising the Nature Conservancy and many influential organizations on climate change, energy, environmental, natural resource and carbon management issues.
