Summit Bistro Offers Financial Incentive to Healthy Eaters

The cafe, located at Centene Plaza in Clayton, serves up breakfast and lunch for the corporate crowd.

Most Clayton residents are familiar with Centene Plaza, even if they don't know it by name.  Located at the popular and prestigious corner of Forsyth Boulevard and Hanley Road, it is a 17-story mixed-use office building.

So when Summit Bistro manager Toby Engel helped research locations to house the cafe, Centene Plaza was a natural first choice.

"It's right in the middle of the corporate center," Engel said.

Early this year, Summit Bistro made its home in Centene Plaza. Boasting a massive interior that seats more than 300 people, the bistro caters to employees of Centene.

However, what sets this bistro apart from others is its commitment to healthy living through better dietary choices. Summit Bistro has an innovative incentive system to promote healthy alternatives. For example, by choosing a vegetarian burger over a traditional hamburger, diners can expect to save a significant amount of money in the long run.

"We want to encourage customers to choose something healthy on our menu," Engel said.

So why the program began in the first place?

"We just want to encourage healthy living and eating for our customers," Engel said.

Summit Bistro offers a wide variety of lunch items from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during the week, including turkey meatloaf and Asian stirfry.

"We also have a salad bar, where customers can create their own healthy lunch," Engel said.

In addition to an expansive lunch menu, Summit Bistro offers breakfast from 7 to 9:30 a.m. on weekdays with choices such as fruit, cereal, pancakes and sausage.
