Soulard Couple Get Net Zero House with Microgrid

Clayton company Microgrid Energy helped the St. Louis City couple install solar panels that are expected to generate more energy than their household uses.

Clayton-based recently helped a couple's house become perhaps the first net zero dwelling in St. Louis City using solar panels. That means the panels are expected to produce more energy than the household consumes.

Each month, Ameren Missouri will credit the electric bill of Soulard residents Jim and Phyllis Young for solar power that their house puts back on the grid, a September news release from Microgrid states.

“We love seeing the combination of the new and the old—the high-tech solar panels and the beautiful historic Victorian home’s architecture," Microgrid President Marc Lopata said of the solar array. "It really shows that solar makes sense just about everywhere.”
