The unemployment rate for the St. Louis metro area in April was 8.5 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics stated on its website. The April figure is preliminary and the most recent number available. It has not been seasonally adjusted.
That's slightly below the seasonally adjusted Missouri unemployment rate of 8.9 percent for April and national rate of 9.1 percent.
Major employers in Clayton and Richmond Heights include , , Brown Shoe Company, and the .
Ellen Gale, executive director of the , said that her office does not keep data on jobs availability in the city. Pat Croghan, president of the Richmond Heights Chamber of Commerce, could not immediately be reached for comment about the jobs outlook in that city.
