New Day Spa In Frontenac Offers Full-Service Treatments

Avani Day Spa's partnership with Nayak Plastic Surgery allows it to offer a variety of medical-grade services.

This week, we head to Frontenac as part of our weekly series on profiling haunts in the Central Corridor.

Avani Day Spa is a full-service day spa off of Lindbergh Boulevard that is named after its owner. It shares a building with Nayak Plastic Surgery.

When Dr. Mike Nayak, Avani’s husband, moved his practice from Ballas Road to its current location, she decided to open the spa.

How did your business get started?
Over the past six to seven years, our patients have been coming to us asking for these services. So it really was in a response to them.

We wanted to be full-service for them, but at the time in the old offices, we didn’t have room. This site has 8,000 square feet, and half of it is the medical office.

We are a mom-and-pop shop. There are no other doctors here. We’ve always taken our business seriously. We’re family owned because we like knowing our clients

How would you describe your business to potential customers?

We offer massages, body treatments, spray tans, manicures, pedicures and facials. Our body treatments include a botanical body polish that sloughs off any dead skin, a slimming aroma wrap where we use detoxifying essential oils that sap out moisture from the skin and lasts for about five days, so it’s great for right before an event.

We also offer ultra-hydrating treatment that infuses the skin to plump up fine lines. We have medical treatments such as laser skin, laser hair removal, chemical peels, fillers and microdermabrasion.

We carry a line of physician-grade, mineral makeup called Jane Iredale, the skin care makeup. We do makeup applications, which are popular with bridal parties, proms and special events.

It’s a relaxing, inviting, pampering experience where the client is definitely the first priority.

What do you offer that’s different or unique?
Everything we do and offer is combined with a board-certified plastic surgeon’s office so everything we do here is of the highest safety standards and medical grade.

Clients don’t ever have to take a risk that something will be dirty. If you’re getting a medical treatment, you have Dr. Nayak here to back you up.

We don’t offer anything we don’t think works, which is part of our practice’s philosophy. We stand behind everything we offer.

What do you like about running a small business?
I love that it’s like a family with our staff. We have many customers who have been here since we first opened.

I like being able to make my own decisions and being able to run the business in a way that I would want to be treated at a spa, in an honest way.

There are new products coming out all the time, so being small, we can test things right away and we can make decisions quickly. There’s no chain of command, and that’s good for the clients, especially when they have an owner who’s research-oriented and always on top of new lines.

Who is your target market?
Women, for the most part; women who are usually over 35. Most are working, most have kids. Moms who are just trying to get a break and have discovered it’s OK to spend time on yourself and take the time to make yourself better in whatever small way you can, in whatever time you have.

Chances are, when you have a good mind-body connection, you will be less stressed out at home, and if that means having a monthly facial that makes you feel younger or your skin feel smoother, then that’s what works for you.

What are your most popular services?
We have a facial called Avani’s Essentials. It lets you choose four out of 10 services. It starts with the basic facial and then you select four services such as waxing, brow/lash tinting, hand paraffin treatment, microdermabrasion, chemical peel, whatever.

We created it on the philosophy that everyone has the right to have beautiful skin but shouldn’t have to break the bank for it. It’s $125 for all those services; a microdermabrasion alone is $100.

What were you doing before this business?
I’m an attorney. If you can make it through law school, then you’re going to be good at doing research and picking up anything new. When our son was born, I quit and helped out around my husband’s office.
