Ikea in Richmond Heights? Nope, Try Kansas City

The Swedish retailer plans to open a store in western Missouri in late 2014, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Consumer Central column reported.

Rumors of an Ikea store in Richmond Heights will remain just that for the foreseeable future after an announcement that the retailer's first Missouri store will open in late 2014 in Kansas City, not St. Louis.

Business reporter Kavita Kumar of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch broke the news Thursday in her Consumer Central column.

Quoting from the Consumer Central post:

"Joseph Roth, an Ikea spokesman, said the Kansas City store does not diminish St. Louis' chances. 'They are completely separate trade areas in our mind,' he said. 'We still recognize the customer base that exists for us in St. Louis. We just have not committed to a time frame yet or found the perfect site.'"
