Erin Nelson Joins Patch in St. Louis as Advertising Manager

She serves clients in Clayton and Richmond Heights, among other cities.

joined the Patch team in St. Louis earlier this year as an advertising manager. She took time to answer a few questions about herself and her job in an email interview.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your family.
I am a 33-year-old St. Louis transplant.  I have been in advertising for about nine years, and  my husband, Nate, and I are expecting our first child this coming April, which is our big news.

What did you do previously? Why did you decide to join Patch?
I came to St. Louis to work at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, where I worked as an advertising manager for a little over six years. Recently, I moved to start working with Patch and AOL because I love online! I get all my information online, and I look up everything. Weather, news, how to tell a baby's gender based on a Chinese calendar, food ratings—you name it, and I am checking it out. Online is where people are going now to find information, and Patch offers a unique way for our local towns to get their news out on a daily basis.

Explain what an advertising manager does.
An ad manager is a consultant. We partner with businesses and clients to find ways to promote themselves, we really are designed to be a tool for local businesses. A good ad manager also helps make recommendations across media. I can't tell you how many times I have been shown media suggestions and buys, and asked my opinion.

Which Patch services are you most excited about, and why?
One of my favorite products we are offering right now is the Premium Video Package. In a virtual world, a business needs to have a great website and ways for people to see and know more about their business. Our video package gives businesses so much more then an ad buy. The client owns the video. They can use it on their site, they can use it on YouTube, I have heard of businesses using it as a recruiting tool. The business owns the rights to the video and can use it for years to come, great investment! The best thing, the price was established for small to mid-level businesses, the cost is extremely affordable.
