Coming Soon to Clayton: Upscale Sports Bar, Speakeasy Cocktails

New restaurants Libertine and Wheelhouse are both set to open in downtown Clayton.

Two new restaurants are opening in downtown Clayton, restoring the balance after the loss of Fatted Calf and the pending closure of Araka.

The Wheelhouse will focus on sports with a "classic bar menu," St. Louis Business Journal reports. The restaurant has taken over Tucci & Fresta's Trattoria and Bar's old space. (It was briefly renovated into a Pasta House Co. before it closed in September 2012.)

The Wheelhouse's owner-operators currently own other establishments, including 10 Below in Columbia, Mo., according to a profile in Sauce Magazine.

“There will be a care that people who run bar kitchens don’t take,” executive chef Nick Del Gaiso told Sauce.

The Business Journal is also reporting that the former Chez Leon is reopening as Libertine. The restaurant will feature a speakeasy cocktail menu, according to the report. Read more about owner Nick Luedde's vision for Libertine on St. Louis Business Journal.

"As both Nick and Audra Luedde are sommeliers, it's a safe bet that the wine list will be smartly curated," St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Evan S. Benn surmises.
