Clayton's Fatted Calf Closes

The burger joint closed last week.

The owner of The Fatted Calf told Riverfront Times' Gut Check that they couldn't sustain the Clayton business. The burger joint closed last week, Gut Check reports.

This time, it's for real. Owner Kathleen Portman nearly closed the restaurant at the end of June 2011, but a surge of business was enough to keep it going.

"There's no question that St. Louis responded with gusto, and we've been really busy every day," Portman told Patch at the end of June 2011.

There's no denying The Fatted Calf left its mark on its customers--it even won Patch's Best Burger in Mid-County poll last year.

"This Clayton eatery is so delish that my dad used to drive here from Nebraska (and Omaha stockyards & beef are primo!) Just for the burgers & toppings!" said Patch reader Mark Cockson.
