Shop Local: Clayton Farmers Market Opens This Week
The first farmers market of the year opens at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
You know it's spring when the Clayton Farmers Market returns. This weekend marks the opening market of the 2013 season.
The Farmers Market will be open with a "Call to the Market" on bagpipes at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot next to Straubs. Bluegrass music by the Ramblers will be the entertainment from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

All items for sale at the Clayton Farmers Market are Missouri/Illinois-made and food-themed products with emphasis on the home-grown, home-made or hand crafted, according to the market's web site.

- Biver Farmers — Organically grown greens, lettuces, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, squash and more.
- Black Bear Bakery — Lickhalter rye breads, as well as a selection of whole grain breads.
- del Carmen — Cuban-style beans
- The Farmers Market — Artisanal naturally cured and smoked meats
- Jaeger Greenhouses — Everything from spring starter plants to household ornamental and tropical plants
- Kamp's Peach Orchards — Peaches, nectarines, plums, tomatoes, and blackberries.
- Little Dipper Chocolates — Chocolate barks and truffles
- Mueller's Family Farm — Flowers
- Olove Oil — Certified Organic Extra Virgin Olea Olive Oil and Olives
- Riverbend Roots Farm — Vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruits.
- Silent Oaks Farm — Tomatoes, potatoes, bell peppers, green beans, snap peas, squash, cucumbers, onions, garlic, broccoli, cabbage, radishes, turnips, beets, lettuce and greens, scallions, parsley, basil, eggplant and more.
- Stinger's Honey — Honey, bees wax candles and other items.
- Stringbean Coffee Company — Small-batch roasted coffee beans.
- Sugar Creek Piedmontese — Beer, free-range chicken and eggs.
- Veggie Boy Produce — Tomatoes, lettuce, salad mixes, peppers, herbs, melons, sweet corn, green beans and more.
- Windy Lake Farm — Pastured chickens (broilers/fryers) and eggs. They also raise pastured broad breasted, heritage turkeys and Red Wattle pigs.
