Engaged Clayton Couple Win $10,000 Bedroom Makeover

Sherie LaFramboise and her fiancé will receive a bedroom makeover this month, six months before getting married.

A breakup can be a sad moment in someone’s life. But in the case of Clayton resident Sherie LaFramboise, a story about one such moment led to something great: A bedroom makeover worth $10,000.

LaFramboise, 26, recently won the Big Bad Bedroom Break-Up writing contest sponsored by CSN Stores, an online retailer that specializes in furniture and home decor.

From Feb. 26-28, LaFramboise and her fiance, Wes Frazier, 25, will receive the bedroom makeover from interior designer Michael Payne of HGTV fame.

The timing couldn’t be better for the couple, who will be married Aug. 27 after three years together.

“We were really in need for a bedroom makeover,” LaFramboise said. “With the wedding coming up, it will just be great to have a new bedroom set.”

The couple, who live in a two-story house in Clayton, said their bedroom doesn't have new furniture so far because they have been reconstructing the second floor to include a second bathroom and a master closet.

“So far, I have done almost all the construction by myself,” said Frazier, who works as a tumbling head coach for Cheer Legendz.

Frazier said he had to hire a few people to help him finish the project just in time for the grand makeover.

To win the bedroom renovation, LaFramboise—a Claire’s store manager who wants to be an author—used her creative skills to write a breakup letter to her old bedroom. Hers beat out 62,000 others letters submitted as part of the contest.

LaFramboise said she was already excited just to be in the top five when she received a phone call letting her know that she had won the contest.

"I started jumping up and down, and my brother and he (Wes) were there with me, and we were hugging and crying. It was amazing,” LaFramboise said.

The couple were happy to be able to give some suggestions to Payne, who will arrive Feb. 26 with an HGTV crew to begin the makeover.

“We suggested him some items we might want, like an indoor fountain, some art work and the bedding to give him an idea of our taste,” LaFramboise said. “However, other than that, it would be a total surprise. But we trust them.”

It would be one of several surprises LaFramboise has received lately. On Nov. 21, she and Frazier were in a cabana when he asked her to go canoeing. She took their dog with them and, after making sure the dog was in a safe place, she turned back to face Frasier. He was down on one knee.

“I didn’t register it right away. We got so excited that we started to hug, and we almost fell in the water,” LaFramboise said.

The couple are considering the possibility of moving to Colorado and hope to raise three or four kids.

“I definitely hit the jackpot,” LaFramboise said.
